APPEALS and TRIAL CONSULTING

 Supreme Court

Appellate counsel who is steeped in the tactics and strategies that change from the trial court to the appellate court is an essential addition to any litigation team. Appeals require a depth of thought, ability to organize, and an understanding of what appellate judges are looking for. Thus, appellate counsel can assist at any stage of litigation to handle your appeal or help prepare your case for an eventual appeal.

When your case is on appeal, Tillman will give cogent advice, write outstanding briefs, and deliver impeccable oral arguments that give you a greater opportunity for success.

At the trial level, Tillman can provide trial consulting to best prepare your case for appeal and also advise regarding dispositive motions and other motions practice.

ABOUT

ABOUT

Tillman Breckenridge's practice includes a diverse array of appellate litigation matters at all levels. He has represented companies, organizations, individuals, and foreign, state, and local governments in cases valued in the millions and billions of dollars before the United States Supreme Court, every federal court of appeals, as well as several state courts, such as the Supreme Court of Virginia, the California Courts of Appeal, and the Illinois Courts of Appeal.

Tillman received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001, where he argued, and won, his first appeal as a third-year student in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in a case that presented an issue of first impression.  Since then, Tillman's appellate successes have spanned the country, addressing myriad courts and various areas of law.  His work has also led to numerous honors.  He has been named to Savoy Magazine's Most Influential Black Lawyers in America, an honorary member of the Order of the Barristers, a Washington, D.C. SuperLawyer, and a member of Virginia's Legal Elite.  He was the youngest Fellow ever—and first under 40—admitted to the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.

In addition to his legal practice, Tillman is a leader in his field, speaking on appellate and related topics in front of various audiences.  He also founded the William and Mary Law School Appellate & Supreme Court Clinic and was the St. George Tucker Adjunct Professor of Law.
